Tick tock. The clock strikes 7pm. You came one hour earlier today to make that stainless steel kitchen squeaky clean. Until you see that sweaty face of yours reflected in the countertop oven. You’ve defros- ted the meats and sea food the day before. Chives, mint and basil are washed and chopped. It’s going to be a busy night. The sous chef mentioned it before while smoking in the courtyard. The draped shoulder piece in off-white feels like an armor. The little smiley faces on the straps seem to express your current emotional landscape. You have been carrying yourself differently somehow, upright with some kind of self-assurance. The co-workers have noticed too. They gaze.
Der Raum mit leichtem Dunst belegt. Den Rücken abgewandt. Jemand ruft ihren Namen, keine Reaktion. In seichter Stimmlage sagt sie:
„Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst.
The shot zooms into the scenery, towards the stream of light. Diagonally shining across the assem- blage of chairs, props and other small objects. Some of these things are dressed in silky smooth fabric – who is going to take you out for dindins tonight? American Express or Diners Club? Olives stuffed with almonds or fermented garlic? It doesn’t matter to you at this point. Your tummy has been rumbling and tumbling since you saw that wobbly looking chair dressed in green. The shade of colour suits it well, you think to yourself, quite slim but still steady. It could carry your weight easily. I wonder if it can hold my emotional baggage though. Haha. You grin while glancing into the mirror to your left. However, you think, eat as many olives as you can, before the company joins in. Order the poshest dish on the menu, without hesitation. The scallops served with wild garlic and fired rock salt seem about right. As soon as they arrive you’ll run off (leave) – some excuse – some trivial ex- planation – the more banal, the better.
Niemand reagiert.
Looking over at the large wall piece, patched together from different clothes and fabrics, you realize how much you despise social gatherings and talks about former accomplishments. Yea, yea... We’re all multifunctional beings! Progress is growth. And we are all working to become the best version of ourselves! You feel that last olive glide up your throat. You gag. The waiter comes over to take on your order. The scallops and a martini, dry. Something to flush that bugger down. You can’t wait to get home and undress that green chair. What will it look like underneath its lingerie?
In meinen Gedanken alleine gelassen.
ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst.“
The conversations have been boring the living hell out of you. Why did I come? An oily scallop slips through your fingers as you try to rip it from its shell. It lands on the floor and glides under the table. Should you try and get a glimpse behind the curtain? You kneel down and reach out, towards her ankle to lift the garment, just a tiny little bit. It is heavier than you expected. A small ray of light shines through the opening, revealing tiny dust particles floating through the air. You lift the green silk a little more and the light soon fills up the entire room. It reaches through the windows, finds its way out- side, floods the streets and follows pathways to reach another buildings window. Here you hesitate.
